The mobile industry has been historically anchored with terrestrial based mobile radio access networks (RAN). 3GPP’s Release 17 and 18 and beyond standards now extend the terrestrial mobile networks into the sky and space by establishing the ability for mobile connectivity to be enabled via High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) as well as low/medium/geostationary earth orbit (LEO/MEO/GEO) satellites.
